YEP lending direction to youth in Pilani

“The Youth Employment Programme gave me the much-needed direction,” says Neeraj. “I was not aware what I actually wanted to do. Even before I enrolled for B. Com, I started several courses including CA and CMA simultaneously. I had even cleared their foundation levels. But I was not sure whether I really want to pursue a career in those streams. I was so confused that I even thought maybe MBA will work better for me.”

The confusion got over when he received the information from M K Saboo PG College of Commerce regarding youth employment programme. Without knowing what TCS is, he enrolled for the training. It was only after getting admission, he came to know that it is the top-most IT company in the country and the world’s third-largest one. His excitement grew and finally he decided to pursue the training seriously.

Anyone, who meets Neeraj, would see the 180-degree smile he has on his face, his sense of humour and a carefree attitude towards life. However, what worried him the most was the money that they need for his mother’s treatment as she is having a hole in her heart.

Neeraj’s father is a driver while his mother stitches clothes despite her illness to make both ends meet. His sister is preparing for government jobs after completing her post-graduation. A lot goes into coaching and other expenses too.

“The beginning of Youth Employment Programme was certainly a golden opportunity for the youth in Pilani, who would have otherwise struggled to get jobs”, says Neeraj. The training has changed his personality, especially his communication and presentation skills. He struggled to speak in English and had a tendency to speak Marwari most of the times. The trainer, Mr. Anant Katyayani would often point this out. It helped him in cracking the interview. Not only this, he feels confident while interacting with the international clients and working on the assignments given to him.

For the last more than a month, Neeraj has been working from the TCS office in NCR region. The best part is the pick-up and drop facility as one doesn’t have to worry to board metro or a bus to travel. The colleagues at the TCS office have been very supportive and helped him in settling down in the new location.

The best day in his life was when he received his first salary and he sent some money home. “I could see a unique sense of pride in the eyes of my parents when I visited home a week ago. I never felt so respected throughout my life. I am grateful to the entire team of TCS, PARC, my college and my colleagues for bringing such a huge change in my life,” says Neeraj.

On being asked, what he wishes to do in future, he says, he would like to do something for the farmers. “I have seen them committing suicide. Given a chance, I would like to help in increasing their revenue”. Way to go Neeraj. We wish you a successful career ahead.
