PARC Education

We believe that learning continuously is the key to bringing in change in society, as well as, for individuals thereby benefitting the present and future of the community. Education’s main role is to impart knowledge which helps in enhancing skills, creating awareness about the needs of changing times, sensitises people to help the less-privileged, finally building a value-based foundation from an early age. Self-aware and self-confident people are better thinkers who make better choices for the community.

Science Education

Scientific Education Initiative (Agastya): We provide hands-on exposure to scientific experiments tied to the curriculum of the rural schools around Pilani through the PARC Discovery Centre, equipped with all the tools needed to conduct scientific experiments, and Mobile Labs, two mobile vans outfitted for carrying and conducting experiments to schools in remote areas.

Digital India Lab

PARC has set up a digital lab for computer education classes to adults. It is equipped with 20+ computer systems with trainers who are volunteers from NSS, BITS Pilani and CEERI scientists. The course is certified by RSCIT. A completion certificate enables the trainees to apply for government jobs. It’s gratifying to see housewives taking an active part in training themselves.

Number of candidates trained: 104
Candidates who cleared examinations: 83

Gyan Bodh

Provides supplementary teaching and coaching to primary & secondary school students. It’s an initiative run by BITS Pilani students. The PARC discovery centre allows students to experiment hands-on with what they learn at school under the guidance of volunteers.

Impact: 3 Gyanbodh students gained admission into BITS Pilani

Prayogshala

As the name suggests, Prayogshala is a place where students from rural schools around Pilani can carry out experiments or make models based on the concepts learnt at school. Students spend time at the discovery centre at the PARC complex in the evenings after school hours. Along with an instructor the discovery centre has all the tools that the students need for their experiments.

Number of students trained: 6138

Prayogshala on wheels

PARC has fitted two vans each with a LED TV, library, models and equipment needed by students for their hands-on experiments. An instructor is also present during their sessions. These mobile labs go village to village visiting schools in remote areas, enabling them to teach & conduct experiments for their students. Two people have been trained for conducting career counselling sessions also. This initiative has been funded by India Today, Polyplex and Crest.

Number of students trained: 13799

Udayan Shalini Fellowship Program (USF)

Udayan Shalini Fellowship Program, from the aegis of Udayan Care, is dedicated to academic excellence and personality development for deserving and talented girls from weak socio-economic backgrounds. The program aims to empower these girls with their right to education so that they are able to pursue their dreams and live a dignified life. A unique aspect of the program is that these girls or fellows are motivated & guided through the program and helped in their career decisions by experienced mentors.

PARC collaborated with Udayan Care in 2022 to start the program in Pilani. The 1991 batch of BITSIANs took ownership of the program by committing to donate, for a period of 6 years, towards the girl students in government schools in Pilani. In 2022, Fellowships were awarded to nearly 55 meritorious girl students from government schools for a period of five years. The girls were selected after a thorough process that included buy-in from the parents. In 2023, nearly 30 girl students from Pilani schools were given scholarships.

Over the last two years, along with mentor-mentee meets, various workshops have been organised for the Shalinis – on out-of-the-box & critical thinking, aspirations & dreams and non-verbal communication, to name a few. They’ve also been a part of plantation and cleanliness drives around Pilani. A visit to CSIR CEERI was organised for the Shalinis, to understand the importance of research in the development of electronic, learn about technology developed in-house, as well as, be aware of Intellectual Property Rights for electronics. All these efforts have been to guide the Shalinis/fellows to have an open mind when thinking of their futures and career choices.

Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL)

Atal Tinkering Lab is a part of the Atal Innovation Mission by Niti Aayog. Each ATL is an action-
oriented workspace for youngsters to get involved with science and technology with the help of robotics lab equipment.

By promoting STEM Education among Government school children, ATL provides a unique opportunity to hone the skills of students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The lab comes with some sophisticated equipment like G-Bot 3D printer, Pluto quadrotor DIY Kit, WIT Blox Robotics DIY Kit and activities like identifying e-waste, its segregation, recycling etc.
Each of the ATLs is supervised by a qualified Trainer with good communication skills who can engage with children to arouse their curiosity.

Each of the ATLs is supervised by a qualified Trainer with good communication skills who can engage with children to arouse their curiosity. Children are encouraged to come up with ideas and build their own machines and models, based on a robust goal. This encourages curiosity, creativity and imagination among the school children, while also developing their analytical and logical thinking abilities.

PARC in collaboration with Grey Sim Learning and Essel Mining have set up the Atal Tinkering Lab in four government schools around Pilani. Namely, The Government Higher Secondary School, Pipli, Khudania Government School, Bajawa Government School and ————- Government School. The schools were selected by Grey SIM Learning Foundation in collaboration with BITSAA & CBEO.
