Moti’s father looked after his family with as much care as he grew plants in his fields. His gardening skills helped him in getting a job in BITS Pilani. Besides, he would grow some crops in the small piece of land they own to sustain his family of seven. Moti would often help his father in the fields besides studying. Money was never sufficient so his father took part-time gardening work when he was free from his main job. Yet his father made every effort to educate his children. He always dreamt big for his children.

Moti is the second eldest in his family, younger to his sister who is a post graduate and older than his brother, who is still pursuing his graduation. When his father came to know about Youth Employment programme, he immediately asked Moti to apply. The only motivating factor was the prospects of getting a job. The family had no information about TCS. They had never heard about Tata group although they had been consuming several TATA products for long. In fact, during the screening interview, Moti could recollect using TATA salt and tea at his home. That’s how he felt a little excited. It was only during the orientation session he and his batchmates came to know about TCS.

Be that as it may, Moti was one of the sincerest students in the batch. He would often reach out to his trainer and batchmates to clarify his doubts. “A common feeling everyone had that only one or two students will get selected in TCS. Many students left the training assuming that they will not get a job,” recalls Moti. “This programme has given a new hope to the youth in Pilani. It has proved that we can have a career even if we do not get selected in government jobs. I am grateful to PARC for bringing TCS to Pilani,” adds Moti.

After a few months of completing his training, Moti has got a job in Gandhinagar branch of TCS. He is excited as he will learn about a new state, its culture besides interacting with various people from different parts of the country. He is waiting for his first salary, which will be his first step to self-dependence. He is extremely grateful to the entire TCS team and Anant sir for this life-changing experience. “The biggest lesson that I learnt from the training is to constantly upgrade your knowledge lest you become outdated and unwanted in this world,” says Moti.

Looking back, Moti thinks that youth in our country are not aware of career options. Most of the students choose a particular stream simply because their friends have opted for the same. “Our school and college authorities must conduct career guidance sessions for the students so that make the right career choice,” he says.
