Rohit -- Smiling his way through life

Rohit, a commerce graduate from M K Saboo P G college of Commerce, Pilani, is one of the students from the first batch of youth employment programme. A bright student, he wanted to pursue MBA. However, the financial condition of his family was not in his favour. Ever since he completed his graduation, he was trying hard to get a job. His father runs a paan shop and mother is a housewife. His sister is studying in senior secondary school. The income that his father had is not sufficient to meet the financial commitments.

When he came to know about the youth employment programme and the prospects of getting a job in TCS, he immediately applied. It took around a month or so to select the candidates. Like others, Rohit was also subjected to a detailed screening process. He was interviewed on phone to understand why he wants to be a part of this training. His passion was clearly visible from his words.

“The training period was a great learning experience for me. The capsule training had everything that any youth would need for transitioning to a career in a multi-national company. Anant Sir (trainer from TCS) is like an older brother. He was able to establish a connection with the students quickly. He was strict when it was required to be and a guide and a mentor most of the time”, recalls Rohit. “Even after the training, we were able to speak to him and clear our doubts,” adds Rohit.

Small wonder, Rohit was one of the few who was able to clear the written exam. He had been very supportive to other students of his batch. A captain of one of the teams, almost everyone approached him whenever there was a trouble, be it registering with TCS or creating their CVs.

After the written exam, he went for an interview in Noida and got selected immediately. He was asked to join in the month of November. Unfortunately, due to a small accident, he had to postpone his joining to January. The HR team at TCS was very supportive and allowed him an extension. Finally, his professional journey has started with a bang in the new year. All this while, one thing that never disappeared from his face, was his charismatic smile!

He is grateful to PARC and TCS foundation for organising YEP training and giving him an opportunity to work in Multinational Company. He is happy that he will be able to contribute to his family and relieve his father’s burden to some extent. In future, he wishes to complete his MBA after saving money from his own earnings simultaneously while working with TCS.
