Muskan leading her way in the IT sector

Twenty-One-year-old Muskan was under tremendous pressure to find a job. Her father is engaged in the business of hand-made jewellery, which was badly hit due to the covid-19 induced lockdown. Even after the lockdown, it did not pick up. People do not have any money to buy jewellery.

What took a major toll was the rent – not only for the shop but also their house. As soon as Muskan completed her graduation, she wanted some source of income, to support her father in managing the household expenses and also for meeting the cost of education of her siblings – one brother who studies in class 9th and a sister who has just started her graduation.

During such circumstances, when she received a message from her college, (M K Saboo PG College of Commerce) informing the students about our collaboration with TCS and youth employment programme, she immediately expressed her interest. After going through a detailed screening process, she was finally enrolled in the batch. The 100-hour training had several elements including communication skills, design thinking, problem-solving, numerical ability and computational skills.

Muskan fondly remembers her trainer who ensured that each and everyone who was part of the training was equally interested as he was in imparting the training. “At times, he had to be a little harsh with the students. But that paid off in the long run,” says Muskan. She was able to improve her communication skills considerably and was finally selected in TCS after going through a rigorous process of written exam and multiple rounds of interview.

It has been almost two months since she joined TCS as a trainee. After completion of the probation period, she will be absorbed as a full-time employee. Her joy knew no bounds when she received her laptop from the company and the day, she got her first stipend from TCS. Everyone from her father to her mother and maternal uncles felt proud of her. “Now, I can help my father. My father is no longer the sole bread winner,” she says with glee in her eyes.

At present, she is working from home and is looking forward to be in the TCS office soon. She is right now handling assignments for international clients of TCS, something she had never imagined in her life. Muskan is grateful to PARC, her sponsors, who supported the cost of her training and the entire team from TCS foundation, who provided her with this extraordinary opportunity. She is the only graduate in her entire extended family to have got a job in an MNC.
