Ajay -- Bringing his family out of poverty

For a person who has spent most of his life in a village, moving on to a multinational company close to the national capital is a dream come true. Ajay had never thought that he will one-day become part of the world’s third largest IT company – Tata Consultancy Services.

“I had studied in a government school till my matriculation. Government school children are usually at a disadvantage as compared to those who study in a private school,” he says. A farmer, his father, Mr. Girdhari Lal holds only nine bigha land in Jherli village near Pilani. With scarce availability of water, they are able to grow only one crop during the year, making it difficult for the family to make both ends meet. With five children, three daughters and two sons, getting good quality education was certainly a privilege. Despite the financial constraints, Mr. Girdhari Lal took some help from his brother-in-law to ensure that his daughters are educated. As soon as they cleared their post-graduation, two of them got a job in government schools.

When Ajay grew up, his sisters paid his college fees. They no longer had to take help from their uncle. Our collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services came as a blessing for many youths like Ajay

After completing his graduation from M K Saboo P G College of Commerce, Ajay was looking for a job when he came to know about youth employment programme from his college. Before his enrolment, he had to undergo a screening interview. He was an active student and followed the advice given by his trainer, Mr. Anant Katyayani which helped him in clearing the written exam and interview conducted by TCS.

It has been two months since he shifted to Gurugram, his reporting place. Initially, he found it difficult to adjust to the city environment. Gradually, he made a few friends. He now loves to go out and has accepted the fast-paced life in a city. He has learnt to exercise prudence while spending money. A major chunk of the amount he earns is shared with his parents.

“My parents and my granny feel proud of me. At a young age of 20, I have started contributing to my family, says Ajay. “I could feel a sense of respect in their eyes when I met them last time. Never before have I felt so respected and loved. I would like to help my sisters, who have been a pillar of support for me, throughout my life. I owe my success to Anant Sir, Nikita Ma’am and Jaswant Ma’am. But for their help, I would have been still struggling in Pilani for a job,” adds Ajay.

We are equally proud of Ajay and all the students, who have been able to fulfil their dream of joining TCS. We wish Ajay a successful career ahead.
